Neuro Massage for Neuroplasticity
Neurological massage requires a mini-neuro assessment. The aim is to develop neuroplasticity, a retraining of your brain and nervous system to adapt in a healthy way to change. Neuro massage can benefit people with
- acute or chronic pain
- numbness and tingling
- TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury)
- Parkinson’s Disease
- posture or gait imbalance.
Because emotional, cognitive, and bodily systems interact, neuro massage applies focused attention, sensory and movement strategies to balance all systems.
In the assessment, the therapist may take an extensive history. Next, she will check for differences between left and right sides for muscle tone/strength, reflexes, pain, numbness, or coordination. These give clues to how well your brain and nervous system are transmitting signals.
Then she will do neuro massage treatments. These will be designed to balance the left and right sides of your brain, to improve your brain-body communication, to relieve pain, to increase sensory awareness, or to increase conscious control of your movement and muscle relaxation. There may be repeated exercises to enhance your body’s learning.
Finally, she may give you extensive take home exercises. Those exercises are what you can do for yourself to rewire your brain and nervous system towards the most beneficial neuroplastic changes.
