Pain relief, relaxation, self-awareness, and release into ease are the hallmarks of Ortho-Bionomy®. It integrates osteopathic principles of the body’s physical function with awareness of the nervous system’s self-corrective reflexes.

curled catIt may involve comfortable positioning of the body around a tender point, with compression into the joint, as the practitioner senses when the body recognizes it is safe to release. It could involve isometrics and exercises for self-care at home. More subtle aspects of Ortho-Bionomy are part of more advanced sessions, where the client may gain insights into how to change beliefs and release old patterns to restore balance.

The founder of Ortho-Bionomy®, Dr. Arthur Lincoln Pauls was a British Osteopathic Physician and judo master. He combined osteopathic principles of release by positioning the body around a tender spot, with the awareness from judo of following the direction the body is already going. This sets up a reflex: the brain can interpret the shortened muscle as safe and sends the signal for the body to relax. The practitioner waits for the body’s signs of release into ease, and follows them. Ortho-Bionomy® can thus help create new habits to maintain healing in daily life, and lasting benefits of relaxation and pain relief.

    This seems so usefull in all aspects of ones life. I have been looking for a means to relieve stress because it effects how my body feels. I’m going to try this and see if this will help put together all the pieces for relaxing and going with the flow of life. Thank you
